Sony has revealed that it won’t be attending E3 in 2019, marking the first time the publisher has elected to stay away in the show’s 24-year history
In a stunning move, Sony has just announced that they will not be attending E3 2019. This on the eve that marks the PS4 5th year of release. Why, the console platform maker has elected to avoid next year’s E3. Has only fuelled speculation that they are indeed wanting to give their next console, the maximum attention it desires. And not surprising since E3 has a full roaster of block buster announcements after announcements. Not saying the magnitude of revealing your next console won’t be stealing the show.
But is it really surprising?. With E3 having lower attendances and fans wanting more interactions with their favourite console makers. It gives more impetus to Sony, MS etc, basically the more human they look, the more relatable they are to fans.
Holding your own gaming fan event means more attention to you
Sony Interactive Entertainment
PlayStation fans mean the world to us and we always want to innovate, think differently and experiment with new ways to delight gamers.
Without a doubt, interactions with fans is key. So it makes sense as to what they’ve stated is what they’ll be going for. MS own fan event X018 was a success, however the issues with MS is that their announcement has never been Stella, to say the least. With Sony however, they’ve always been able to grab your attention. So to break away from the congestion that is E3. The message that Sony will have, will be that much IMPACTFUL.
This will be the main reasoning as to why Sony skipped out on E3 in 2019. They have to make this news count, otherwise the detractors of Sony have a lot of ammunition to play with. To flip it, MS can’t not mess up this golden opportunity to get one over Sony, seeing as their biggest competitor is not there.
To summarise; I think E3 won’t be as strong in the coming years. I do think 3rd party exclusives will be shown there, but for the big more exciting news, I think Sony and MS will save that for their own event.
